Minor Found Dead; Mob Attack Kills Accused Couple In West Bengal

Child found dead in Nadia; accused couple killed by mob; police probe underway.

In a tragic incident in Nischintapur, Nadia district, West Bengal, a mob fatally assaulted a couple on Saturday after the body of eight-year-old Swarnabha Mondal, a Class 3 student, was found wrapped in tarpaulin in a local pond. The boy had been missing since Friday afternoon, prompting a night-long search and a missing person complaint by his family.

Locals, including the boy's relatives, accused neighbors Utpal Biswas and Soma Biswas of involvement in the child's death, citing ongoing family disputes. Enraged, the mob stormed the couple's home beside the pond, vandalized their property, and set fire to an adjacent jute warehouse they owned. The couple was dragged out and brutally beaten, according to police.

Officers rescued the injured pair and rushed them to a hospital, where they were declared dead. "The body of the boy was recovered this morning, leading to the violent outburst. We have deployed teams to restore order, and the situation is now under control," a senior police officer stated. No arrests have been made, but an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the boy's death and the mob attack, with several residents implicated.
