Minister Honours 26 Young Doctors, Advises Specialisation To Strengthen India’s Healthcare

Dr Jitendra Singh urges young doctors to specialise, enhancing India’s healthcare in a tech-driven era.

Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, has urged young doctors across India to focus on medical specialisations, highlighting the importance of continuous learning as technology reshapes the country’s healthcare landscape. Speaking at an awards ceremony, he presented honours to 26 young medical professionals who have excelled in fields such as oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology, orthopaedics, and emergency medicine.

In his address, Dr Singh emphasised the significance of recognising young doctors early in their careers. He noted that early accolades not only boost confidence but also motivate professionals to pursue excellence and keep pace with rapid advancements in medical knowledge and technology. Many of the awards went to young practitioners rather than senior doctors, a decision Dr Singh described as a way to strengthen the future of healthcare in India.

The minister spoke about the evolving nature of medical practice, pointing out that artificial intelligence and other technological innovations have enhanced diagnosis and treatment, but the role of doctors remains indispensable. He stressed that with an expanding array of specialisations and emerging treatment approaches, it is crucial for young medicos to concentrate on a particular area of expertise and update their skills regularly.

Referencing the post-COVID healthcare environment, Dr Singh noted that both communicable and lifestyle diseases continue to pose challenges for the country’s healthcare system. He highlighted that specialised knowledge and continuous professional development are key to meeting these challenges effectively, ensuring quality care for patients across diverse medical needs.

Dr Singh also expressed confidence that the young doctors honoured at the conclave would achieve major milestones in their careers. He suggested that some could eventually receive lifetime achievement recognition for their contributions to the medical profession, reinforcing the importance of nurturing talent from an early stage.

Earlier, in a conclave held in February, Dr Singh had highlighted initiatives such as the Biopharma Shakti Mission, India’s biotechnology advancements, and the establishment of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation. He also referred to a Rs 1 lakh crore Research Development and Innovation framework designed to strengthen research through private and philanthropic participation, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing science, technology, and healthcare.
