Mild 2.5 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Karnataka’s Kalaburagi District

A 2.3 magnitude quake hit near Jawalga village, Kalaburagi; tremors were felt 25 km away, and no damage was reported.

A minor earthquake of 2.3 magnitude struck Kalaburagi district in Karnataka on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 12:35 PM IST, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). The epicenter was located 0.5 km southeast of Jawalga Village in Aloor, Aland taluk, with tremors potentially felt within a 20-25 km radius.

The KSNDMC reported that the low-intensity quake, occurring in Seismic Zone III, poses no significant threat to the local community. “This type of earthquake would not cause harm, though minor vibrations may be felt,” the agency stated in a press release. The region shows no major structural discontinuities, per the tectonic map, reducing the likelihood of significant seismic activity.

No damage or injuries were reported, and local authorities confirmed the situation is under control. The KSNDMC continues to monitor the area for any aftershocks, though none are expected due to the quake’s minor magnitude.

This event follows a similar low-intensity tremor in Kalaburagi in August 2025, reflecting the region’s occasional seismic activity within a relatively stable tectonic zone. Residents are advised to stay informed through official updates but are not required to take immediate action.
