MEA Says India Supports Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire And Regional Stability Efforts

India supports Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, welcomes steps toward regional peace.

India has expressed support for the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stating that New Delhi welcomes all efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the West Asia region. The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic activity following the implementation of a temporary truce between the two sides.

During a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India “welcomes every step towards peace,” reflecting New Delhi’s broader position of encouraging dialogue and de-escalation in conflict zones. The comments were made in the context of ongoing developments linked to the ceasefire and wider diplomatic efforts involving global stakeholders.

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon reportedly began as a 10-day truce, marking a pause in hostilities after weeks of escalating tensions in the region. The United States has been playing a key role in facilitating discussions, with reports suggesting that Washington is attempting to build momentum for a broader peace framework involving regional leadership.

When asked about Pakistan’s reported involvement in diplomatic conversations related to the Iran–US situation, the MEA said India is closely monitoring developments. Jaiswal noted that New Delhi is keeping a “watchful eye” on the evolving situation in West Asia, underlining India’s continued strategic interest in regional stability given its economic and security linkages.

The ceasefire comes against the backdrop of a wider and complex regional conflict involving multiple actors, including Israel, Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Iran. While the truce has brought temporary relief in some areas, reports from the ground indicate continued volatility, with isolated incidents of firing and artillery activity reported even after the agreement took effect.

India’s response reflects its consistent diplomatic approach of supporting peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue. As the situation continues to evolve, New Delhi has reiterated its focus on monitoring developments closely while backing initiatives that reduce tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.
