MEA highlights diplomatic outcomes from PM Modi’s three-nation visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand delivered significant outcomes across areas including trade, technology, security, education, innovation and people-to-people relations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday. The visit concluded in New Zealand, where Modi held extensive talks with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The MEA described Modi’s New Zealand visit as an important step towards deepening ties and building a shared future between the two countries. In a special gesture, Luxon accompanied Modi to the airport and saw him off as the Indian Prime Minister departed for New Delhi after completing the final leg of his three-nation tour.
During his stay in Auckland, Modi received a traditional Māori welcome at Government House, featuring customary rituals symbolising peace, respect and friendship. Following the ceremony, he inspected a Guard of Honour before beginning bilateral discussions with Luxon. The talks covered several areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, agriculture technology, education, tourism, culture, sports and stronger people-to-people connections.

The two leaders witnessed the exchange of multiple agreements and understandings in areas such as defence and maritime security, hydrography, sports cooperation, disaster management, dairy, tourism, maritime heritage, culture, food technology and ocean research. Modi also interacted with business leaders and CEOs, highlighting shared democratic values, respect for the rule of law and a commitment to sustainable development as the foundation for stronger economic cooperation.
Modi said the proposed India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could become a major milestone in bilateral relations by creating new opportunities in market access, investment, services, technology and talent mobility. He and Luxon also attended a special gala luncheon titled “India-New Zealand: A Winning Partnership”, which brought together representatives from politics, business, academia, technology, sports and the arts.
The Prime Minister’s visit also included interaction with the Indian diaspora in New Zealand at the “Kia Ora Modi” event in Auckland, attended by around 10,000 members of the community. Modi thanked the diaspora for their contribution to strengthening India-New Zealand relations and said the community represented an important pillar of friendship between the two countries. He described the relationship as a shared journey, referring to the Māori word “waka”, which symbolises a collective voyage towards new opportunities.
