MEA Dismisses Reports of Diplomatic Breach in Delhi Protest, Calls Claims Misleading
New Delhi slams misleading reports on peaceful minority protest.
The Ministry of External Affairs has strongly rejected what it described as misleading propaganda in sections of the Bangladesh media regarding a small protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on December 20, 2025. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that no security breach occurred during the demonstration, emphasising India's unwavering commitment to protecting foreign diplomatic missions under the Vienna Convention.
Approximately 20-25 youths gathered peacefully in front of the High Commission, raising slogans to condemn the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, and demanding better protection for minorities. The group was dispersed by police within minutes, with no attempt made to breach the fence or create any disturbance, and visual evidence of the event is publicly available.
The protest was triggered by the horrific mob killing of Dipu Chandra Das on December 19, who was accused of blasphemy, beaten to death, and his body set on fire amid escalating unrest in Bangladesh. This incident has heightened concerns over the safety of religious minorities, particularly Hindus, prompting widespread condemnation in India.

Bangladesh has been gripped by violence following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi on December 18, who succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained in an assassination attempt on December 12 while campaigning in Dhaka. His passing sparked massive protests, vandalism of media offices, and attacks on cultural sites, with interim leader Muhammad Yunus declaring a national day of mourning and vowing justice.
India continues to monitor the situation closely, maintaining contact with Bangladeshi authorities to express grave concerns about attacks on minorities and urging swift action against perpetrators of such violence, while reaffirming its dedication to diplomatic norms and regional stability.
