Massive Search in Kathua After Suspicious Trio Spotted
Suspicious movement sparks urgent J&K search
A large-scale search operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday after a woman reported spotting three suspicious individuals in the Rajbagh area late Monday night around 10:30 pm. The alert triggered a swift response from a joint team comprising the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG), focusing on the dense terrain near the Ujh river, a known infiltration route from Pakistan.
Officials said the operation, initiated at dawn, involves combing forested areas and villages along the International Border, with heightened vigilance along the Jammu-Pathankot highway, a critical route. Drones and sniffer dogs have been deployed to track potential infiltrators, amid concerns of a possible terror plot following the recent Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of residents,” a senior police official stated, noting that checkpoints have been established across Kathua.
The local administration has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity, with police issuing a helpline number (192). The operation comes amid heightened security in J&K, with 1,147 terror-related deaths since 2014, per government data, and recent intelligence warnings of increased infiltration attempts. Posts on X, including from @JmuKmrPolice, reflect public anxiety, with users like @KashmirMonitor calling for stricter border surveillance, while others speculate about links to Pakistan-based groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed.
