Massive Landslide Blocks Kohima-Wokha NH-2
Landslide Traps Vehicles on NH-2
A massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall has completely blocked National Highway-2 (NH-2) between Kohima and Wokha, stranding numerous passenger and commercial vehicles on Monday. The collapse, occurring near Phesama between KM 192.050 and KM 192.150, brought down large boulders and debris, rendering the vital route impassable, according to officials.
NH-2 connects Kohima to key districts like Tseminyu, Wokha, Pughoboto (Zunheboto), and Mokokchung, serving as a lifeline for transporting goods and essentials. The blockage has disrupted supply chains and commuter travel, with vehicles stranded for hours on both sides. No casualties have been reported, police confirmed.
District administration, police, and Public Works Department teams rushed to the site, but ongoing mudslides have delayed clearance operations. The Kohima district administration issued a traffic advisory, halting heavy vehicles at Khuzama (Manipur-bound) and Sechu Zubza (Dimapur-bound). Light motor vehicles are being rerouted via Demorie Cove or JCC-Kisama-Phesama for Kohima and BSF Camp-Chakhabama-Kidima-Viswema for Manipur.

The Merama Youth Organisation (MYO) urged heavy vehicles to avoid the Kisama exit road due to narrow stretches and congestion risks. The area, prone to landslides during monsoons, saw a similar incident in 2018, damaging homes and farmland. Authorities are exploring temporary bypasses, with clearance expected to take two to three days, weather permitting.
