Since June 1, 2025, Maharashtra’s Marathwada region has been reeling from devastating monsoon-related incidents, claiming 104 lives, according to officials. The relentless rains have wreaked havoc across 3050 villages in the eight districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Dharashiv, Hingoli, Latur, and Beed, leaving a trail of destruction for farmers and residents alike.

The divisional commissioner’s office reported that excessive rainfall has caused widespread crop damage, severely impacting the region’s agricultural backbone. Of the 104 fatalities recorded between June 1 and September 29, seven were due to floods since September 26. Additionally, 2838 animals have perished, with Beed alone accounting for 685 losses. Nanded reported the highest human toll with 28 deaths, followed by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (17), Beed (16), Hingoli (13), Jalna and Dharashiv (9 each), and Parbhani and Latur (6 each).

The floods have caused extensive infrastructure damage, affecting 2701 kilometers of roads, 1504 bridges, 222 water lakes, 1064 schools, 9567 electricity poles, 58 local government buildings, 392 water pipeline schemes, and 352 primary health centers. The estimated cost for repairs is a staggering Rs 2432.53 crore, posing a significant challenge for recovery efforts.

Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar emphasized that the government is compiling lists of affected farmers, who must complete e-KYC to receive financial aid directly in their bank accounts. While floodwaters are receding, authorities remain vigilant, particularly for residents in low-lying areas along the Godavari River.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally reviewed the crisis on September 29, underscoring the state’s commitment to addressing the disaster. As Marathwada battles to recover, the focus remains on rebuilding infrastructure, supporting farmers, and preventing further loss of life.
