Manoj Sinha Joins Drug-Free Campaign Padyatra In Rajouri, Calls For Strong Action
Manoj Sinha joins Rajouri padyatra, pushes drug-free Jammu Kashmir campaign.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday joined a padyatra in Rajouri district as part of the ongoing “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” campaign, reinforcing the administration’s push against drug abuse and trafficking in the region. The event also featured a public rally where the L-G outlined the government’s intensified anti-narcotics strategy.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha said Rajouri, being a border district, remains vulnerable to cross-border drug smuggling. He asserted that the administration is committed to dismantling drug networks and freeing society from addiction. He highlighted that a coordinated crackdown launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police on April 11 had already led to multiple arrests and seizures within days.
According to officials, over 45 FIRs were registered and 63 drug smugglers were arrested between April 11 and April 15, with significant quantities of narcotics recovered. The L-G added that enforcement operations are now being extended to schools, pharmacies, and drug distribution networks, with regular inspections planned to sustain pressure on illegal activities.

Sinha described drug addiction as a serious social challenge, stating that it goes beyond individual behaviour and affects entire families and communities. He alleged that drug trafficking is being used as a tool to weaken society, and called it a long-term threat that requires sustained collective action from both government agencies and citizens.
He further announced that the administration has launched a 100-day intensive anti-drug drive aimed at dismantling trafficking networks. Emphasising accountability, he said authorities have been instructed to ensure strict action against smugglers and prevent any escape from prosecution. He also noted that the number of cases registered prior to April 11 has increased significantly in recent days, reflecting intensified enforcement.
The L-G stressed that prevention remains the core focus of the campaign, urging awareness efforts in schools, colleges, and community spaces to protect young people from substance abuse. He also called for rehabilitation efforts to be strengthened, including counselling, detoxification, and reintegration support for recovering individuals.
During the event, Sinha administered an anti-drug pledge and also launched sporting initiatives including the Rajouri Premier League and Rajouri Football Club under the broader Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan. Cultural performances were also held to raise awareness about the impact of drug abuse, while the L-G appealed to NGOs and civil society groups to actively participate in the campaign.
