Man Wanted in Armed Robbery Arrested After Shootout in Southeast Delhi

Notorious criminal with eight cases caught following brief gunfight with police.

A 23-year-old man, identified as Sagar alias Maya, was arrested late Monday night following a brief shootout with police in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony, authorities confirmed. The suspect, wanted in connection with an armed robbery, is a known criminal with eight prior convictions, including robbery, snatching, and violations under the Arms Act. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for the Delhi Police’s Special Task Force (STF) in curbing criminal activity in the region, which has seen a rise in violent crimes in recent months.

The operation unfolded when the STF, acting on intelligence, confronted Sagar in Amar Colony. According to a senior police officer, the suspect opened fire on the team, prompting a retaliatory exchange of gunfire. No injuries were reported, and Sagar was swiftly overpowered and taken into custody. The police recovered a firearm and ammunition from his possession, further linking him to the armed robbery case under investigation at the Amar Colony police station.

Sagar’s criminal history paints him as a habitual offender, classified as an “active bad character” by law enforcement, a term used for individuals with repeated serious offenses. His apprehension is part of ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to target organized crime and reduce violent incidents in the capital, where robbery cases have surged by 12% in 2025, per preliminary crime data. The STF’s late-night operation underscores the risks officers face in tackling armed suspects in densely populated urban areas.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Authorities are interrogating Sagar to uncover potential links to other crimes in the region. Police have urged residents to report suspicious activities, emphasizing community cooperation in maintaining safety. The investigation continues as officials work to ensure justice and deter further criminal activity in southeast Delhi.
