Mamata Banerjee Writes Theme Song For Kolkata Durga Puja Centenary

West Bengal CM pens lyrics for Tala Prattoy Puja’s 100th year celebration.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again showcased her creative flair by writing the lyrics for the theme song of Tala Prattoy, a prominent Durga Puja committee in north Kolkata, celebrating its centenary year. The song, titled "Bij Angan" (Seeds in the Courtyard), was performed by state minister Indranil Sen and launched as a music video on Wednesday, adding a cultural highlight to the festival preparations.

The Tala Prattoy Durga Puja, a century-old tradition, is renowned for its artistic pandals and has garnered multiple awards for its innovative designs. This year’s theme, "Bij Angan," symbolizes the seeds of life, reflecting nature and the divine essence of the mother goddess, according to committee spokesperson Dhrubajyoti Bose Suvo. The theme will be brought to life through intricate pandal interiors, installations, and the central idol, embodying Bengal’s rich cultural heritage. “We are deeply honored to have the Chief Minister’s lyrical contribution for our milestone celebration,” Suvo said, emphasizing the song’s role in capturing the spirit of Durga Puja.

Mamata Banerjee, a prolific poet and artist, is no stranger to contributing to Kolkata’s Durga Puja festivities, often penning songs or painting for various committees. Her involvement underscores the festival’s significance as a cornerstone of Bengali identity, drawing millions to Kolkata’s elaborately decorated pandals each year. Indranil Sen, the Minister of State for Tourism and Information and Cultural Affairs, lent his voice to the composition, blending political and cultural roles in a city where Durga Puja is both a religious and socio-cultural spectacle.
