Mamata Banerjee Visits Governor RN Ravi at Lok Bhavan, Says Visit has No Political Agenda
Mamata visited Governor Ravi for tea despite previously questioning his appointment as a partisan.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid a courtesy visit to newly appointed Governor RN Ravi at Lok Bhavan on Saturday, shortly after previously criticising his appointment. The meeting took place at the governor’s official residence in Kolkata and lasted for about an hour.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival, Banerjee clarified that the visit was purely formal. She said she had been invited for tea by the governor during his oath-taking ceremony earlier this month and maintained that there was “no agenda” behind the interaction. The meeting came within hours of Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar leaving the same venue.
Banerjee had earlier raised questions over the sudden resignation of former Governor C V Ananda Bose and the appointment of Ravi. She had been critical of the development, alleging political motives behind the leadership change at Raj Bhavan ahead of the state’s upcoming Assembly elections.

The centre had replaced Bose, who served for over three years, with Ravi, a retired IPS officer and former governor of Tamil Nadu. The move had triggered a political controversy, with Banerjee also targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the decision. Despite earlier tensions, the latest meeting signals a formal engagement between the state government and the new gubernatorial leadership.
