Malappuram Gets Nation’s First Fully Air-Conditioned Government LP School
Fully AC classrooms, mini-libraries, and modern facilities are ready for students in Malappuram.
India’s first fully air-conditioned government lower primary school, located at Melmuri Muttipadi Government LP School in Malappuram municipality, is ready for its grand opening on October 19, 2025. The state-of-the-art facility, replacing a century-old structure deemed unsafe, will be inaugurated by MP E. T. Muhammed Basheer at 4 PM. The modern two-storey building, spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, introduces advanced amenities to enhance the learning environment for young students.
The new school features eight air-conditioned classrooms, a computer lab, a library, a staff room, and a headmaster’s room, all equipped with digital display screens and an integrated campus-wide sound system. Each classroom includes a mini-library and modern FRP benches and desks, replacing traditional furniture.
Additional facilities include purified drinking water kiosks on both floors and shoe racks for students to store footwear before entering, promoting hygiene and organisation. The municipality invested Rs 5 crore in construction, air-conditioning, solar power systems, modern furniture, a perimeter wall, and interlocking, with an additional Rs 50 lakh from MLA P Ubaidullah’s Asset Development Fund.
Led by municipal chairman Mujeeb Kateri and ward councillor C. K. Najia Shihar, the project was built on newly acquired land, ensuring a safe and sustainable space for education. The initiative reflects the local government’s commitment to modernising public education infrastructure, setting a precedent for other regions. The fully air-conditioned environment is a significant milestone, addressing Kerala’s tropical climate to create a comfortable learning space for students and staff.

The inauguration will feature a cultural procession and an art evening, attended by public representatives, officials, and dignitaries.
