Major Fire in Gurugram! Basai Chowk Inferno Ravages Huts

Gurugram Blaze Chaos: Basai Chowk Inferno Ravages Huts

A massive fire broke out at Basai Chowk in Gurugram, Haryana, on Saturday morning, engulfing numerous huts and sending plumes of thick smoke into the sky.

The blaze, reported around 6:30 AM IST, rapidly spread through the densely packed shanties, reducing an estimated 100 to 200 makeshift homes to ashes, according to initial accounts from local officials and fire services.

Firefighters rushed to the scene with at least 10 fire tenders from stations across Gurugram, including Sector 29, Udyog Vihar, and Bhim Nagar, battling the flames for over six hours. “The fire was intense due to the flammable materials in the huts,” said a senior fire official, noting that strong winds fueled its spread.

While the operation managed to evacuate residents safely, preventing any reported casualties, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed as cooling efforts continue.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with early speculation pointing to a possible electrical short circuit or a cooking mishap—common triggers in such settlements. Basai Chowk, near the Basai flyover and Dwarka Expressway, is a busy hub with a mix of slums and industrial units, amplifying the panic as the blaze unfolded.

Local police cordoned off the area, and senior officials are overseeing relief measures for displaced residents.

This incident follows a pattern of fire outbreaks in Gurugram, with a notable blaze at Kingdom of Dreams earlier this month. As authorities probe further, the focus shifts to aiding those who lost everything in this devastating inferno. More details are awaited as the situation develops.
