Major Advance in Counter-Terrorism: Amit Shah Launches AI-Powered National IED Data System

Amit Shah launches AI-powered National IED Data Management System by NSG for nationwide bomb blast tracking.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), a cutting-edge digital platform developed by the National Security Guard (NSG). The system is designed to strengthen India’s counter-terrorism capabilities by enabling systematic collection, analysis, and sharing of data related to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across the country.

The platform was inaugurated via video conferencing from the NSG garrison in Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana. Created by the NSG’s National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC), the NIDMS forms a key part of India’s efforts to modernise intelligence and forensic responses to bomb-related incidents and terror attacks.

One of the most significant features of the platform is its AI-enabled database, which can identify and analyse “signature linkages” between different bomb blast incidents. These linkages refer to unique patterns, components, or methods used in IEDs that can help investigators connect separate incidents to common sources, networks, or perpetrators.

The NIDMS will collect IED-related data from across the country and disseminate actionable intelligence to state police forces, central armed police forces, and national investigative and intelligence agencies. According to the NSG, this shared digital ecosystem will ensure a common understanding and coordinated response among all security stakeholders.

Officials said the platform will be particularly valuable in post-blast investigations, allowing agencies to quickly analyse evidence, compare past incidents, and identify emerging threats. The NBDC already examines all types of bombings in India and monitors major explosions globally, and the NIDMS will significantly enhance its analytical capabilities.

Established in 1984, the NSG—popularly known as the “Black Cats”—is India’s premier counter-terrorism force, tasked with handling high-risk counter-terror and counter-hijack operations, as well as protecting select high-threat VIPs. The launch of NIDMS marks a major technological leap in strengthening national security and preventing future terror attacks.
