Mahindra & Mahindra Posts 26% Sales Surge in July 2025

SUVs, tractors drive record growth

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) reported a robust 26% year-on-year increase in total vehicle sales for July 2025, reaching 83,691 units compared to 66,444 units in July 2024, cementing its position as India’s second-largest passenger vehicle maker. The Mumbai-based automaker’s performance was propelled by strong demand for its SUVs and a steady rise in tractor sales, bolstered by new launches and favorable rural market conditions.

In the utility vehicles (SUV) segment, M&M sold 49,871 units domestically, a 20% jump from 41,623 units last year, with total SUV sales, including exports, hitting 50,835 units. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of M&M’s Automotive Division, attributed the growth to the launch of the XUV 3XO ‘REVX’ Series and deliveries of Pack 2 variants for the electric BE 6 and XEV 9E models, which garnered 30,179 bookings on launch day. Year-to-date (April-July 2025), M&M sold 201,938 SUVs domestically, up 22%, reinforcing its SUV market dominance. The Scorpio N and Classic led with 150,929 units sold from April 2024 to February 2025, followed by the XUV 3XO (93,851 units) and Thar Roxx (75,898 units).

Commercial vehicle sales remained solid, with 21,571 units sold domestically, while three-wheeler sales, including electric variants, soared 164% to 9,475 units, driven by last-mile mobility demand. Exports surged 83% to 2,774 units, reflecting M&M’s growing global footprint, particularly in South Africa and Nepal.

The Farm Equipment Business (FEB) saw domestic tractor sales rise 5% to 26,990 units from 25,587, with total tractor sales (including exports) up 6% to 28,708 units. Veejay Nakra, President of M&M’s FEB, credited sustained land preparation, robust rural cash flows post-Rabi harvest, and a well-progressing monsoon supporting Kharif sowing. Tractor exports grew 6% to 1,718 units. For April-July 2025, domestic tractor sales reached 156,189 units, up 10%.

Despite a 6.3% dip in India’s passenger vehicle market in June 2025, M&M’s 12.2% growth that month and consistent performance underscore its resilience. The company’s strategic focus on SUVs, electric vehicles, and rural markets positions it to challenge Tata Motors (70,963 units in April 2025) for third place in FY2026, trailing only Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Analysts attribute M&M’s success to competitive pricing, like the Thar Roxx’s ₹12.99 lakh starting point, and a 27.68% commercial vehicle market share in January 2025.
