Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja at his Chennai residence on Sunday, to extend his heartfelt wishes ahead of the maestro’s debut Symphony No. 1, titled Valiant, set to be performed with a full orchestra in London on March 8. This landmark event at the Eventim Apollo marks a historic moment, as Ilaiyaraaja becomes the first Asian composer to present a symphony of this scale in the West, a feat Stalin hailed as unparalleled in Asia.
Stalin, describing Ilaiyaraaja as the "music breath" of Tamils worldwide, praised the composer’s genius and the pride he brings to Tamil Nadu. During the visit, Ilaiyaraaja shared the meticulously crafted music notes for Valiant, a gesture that underscored the symphony’s significance. Posting on social media, Stalin shared a video of their interaction, emphasizing the cultural milestone. Ilaiyaraaja, in turn, expressed his joy and gratitude for the CM’s personal visit amidst his busy schedule.
The meeting came a day after Stalin’s birthday on March 1, during which he thanked supporters and reiterated his commitment to elevating Tamil Nadu and safeguarding the Tamil language. He also highlighted a protest by Tamils in the US against perceived language imposition, ending his post with "Tamizh Vazhga" (Long live Tamil). This symphony debut not only celebrates Ilaiyaraaja’s legacy but also amplifies Tamil Nadu’s cultural resonance on the global stage, blending tradition with innovation.
