Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Details Religious Tourism And Heritage Plans At BJP Meet

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday outlined his government’s plans to promote religious tourism, preserve cultural heritage and create local employment opportunities during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s two-day state working committee meeting in Orchha. The meeting was held in the historic town, known for the Ramraja Sarkar temple, with Yadav emphasising the role of pilgrimage and heritage projects in the state’s development. He also linked the initiatives to efforts to strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s cultural identity.

Yadav pointed to the transformation of Ujjain following the construction of Shri Mahakal Mahalok, noting that the project had contributed to a major change in the city’s economy alongside a rise in pilgrim footfall. He said similar development was being planned in Orchha, where Shri Ram Raja Lok is under construction. The government intends to develop major pilgrimage destinations across Madhya Pradesh to promote religious tourism and generate new employment opportunities for local communities.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of preserving Orchha’s historic architecture and cultural legacy. He recalled the religious significance of Chitrakoot and noted that the state was working to connect its heritage with future generations. Orchha, which once served as the capital of Bundelkhand under the Bundela rulers, has several historic structures. The government is working to restore these sites using materials similar to those originally used, with local skilled artisans involved in the restoration process.

Yadav also highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s wider cultural initiatives during the meeting. According to a political resolution adopted by the BJP, around 13 crore people visited the state over the past year, while Ujjain hosted 139 days of cultural programmes. Three cultural traditions of the state — Bhagirathi dance of the Bhil tribe, Gaddu Tikhantrikali and Namde Parikrama — have also been included in India’s National Heritage list. A Saraswati Lok is planned at the Bhojshala campus in Dhar, along with a Rajbhasha Sadhana Sthan.

The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh holds an important place in India’s cultural thought and stressed mutual cooperation and respect. The BJP’s state working committee, which began on August 30, adopted a resolution focused on making the state agriculturally prosperous, industrially strong, intellectually vibrant, youth-oriented, socially harmonious and culturally confident, alongside effective administration. The party also reaffirmed its commitment to building a developed Madhya Pradesh in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India by 2047.
