Luthra brothers Cite Repeated Health Issues to Stall Questioning, Say Police
Luthra brothers evade questions in deadly blaze custody case.
Saurav and Gaurav Luthra, the co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora's popular nightlife district where a catastrophic fire erupted on December 6, 2025, resulting in the tragic loss of 25 lives, are currently in Goa Police custody following their extradition from Thailand earlier this week, yet they are actively resisting cooperation with investigators.
The brothers have adopted a pattern of repeatedly citing medical complaints—ranging from back pain to chest discomfort and leg issues—every few hours during interrogation sessions, despite comprehensive medico-legal examinations revealing no evidence of genuine health problems, prompting authorities to view these claims with suspicion.
In a notable deviation from standard procedures, four separate medico-legal assessments were performed on the accused within the initial 36 hours of detention, far exceeding the typical 48-hour interval mandated for such checks in police custody, which informed sources interpret as a calculated manoeuvre to exhaust the limited remand period and hinder substantive progress in questioning.

Compounding the challenges for the investigation, significant inconsistencies and irregularities have surfaced in the documentation provided by the Luthra brothers, raising further questions about their conduct and potentially linked to the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident at their establishment.
The sequence of events following the fire reveals a rapid attempt to flee accountability: present at a wedding in Delhi when the blaze broke out, the brothers booked and boarded an early morning flight to Phuket by 5:20 am the next day, subsequently disregarding multiple requests from authorities in Thailand to return voluntarily and assist with the probe, ultimately necessitating formal extradition proceedings to bring them back to India for facing charges.
