Lucknow Building Fire Claims 15 Lives, FIR Registered, Site Sealed As Investigation Continues

Lucknow building fire kills 15; authorities seal site and begin investigation.

Authorities have sealed a commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area and registered a First Information Report (FIR) following a devastating fire that claimed 15 lives and left several others injured. The blaze, which broke out on Monday afternoon, engulfed a three-storey structure housing an animation training centre and a gaming zone, triggering panic and chaos among those inside.

The incident occurred around 2 pm in Purania Sector-D, where a large number of students and young professionals were present at the time of the fire. Eyewitness accounts and visuals from the site showed desperate attempts by occupants to escape as flames rapidly spread through the building. Some individuals were seen attempting to climb down power lines, while others jumped from upper floors as firefighters battled to bring the situation under control.

Most of the victims were reportedly associated with the training centre and gaming facility operating inside the building. Rescue operations continued for several hours as emergency teams worked to evacuate those trapped inside and extinguish the blaze. Authorities have since launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess possible lapses in safety compliance.

The tragedy has drawn reactions from the highest levels of government. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives, with the Prime Minister also announcing financial assistance for the victims’ families. An ex gratia of ₹2 lakh has been declared for the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be provided to those injured.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cancelled the remainder of his scheduled visits to Aligarh and Hathras in response to the incident, directing officials to prioritise relief and rescue operations. Meanwhile, police have sealed the premises and registered an FIR as part of the ongoing probe into the circumstances that led to the fire.

Authorities are now focusing on identifying the exact cause of the blaze, including possible electrical faults or violations of fire safety norms. The incident has once again raised concerns over enforcement of safety regulations in commercial establishments, particularly those hosting high footfall activities such as training centres and entertainment zones.
