Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Ruckus on Various Pending Issues

Opposition MPs raised slogans and protested on various issues, forcing repeated disruptions.

Proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day on Thursday amid sustained uproar by opposition members over multiple issues, disrupting the functioning of the Lower House of Parliament. The repeated interruptions prevented the House from taking up scheduled business, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the session.

Soon after the House convened, opposition MPs raised slogans and demanded discussions on a range of concerns, including alleged governance failures and contentious policy matters. Despite appeals from the Chair for order, the protests continued, making it difficult to proceed with Question Hour and legislative work.

The Speaker attempted to restore normalcy by urging members to raise their issues through established parliamentary procedures. However, opposition members insisted on immediate debate, leading to heated exchanges between the treasury benches and the opposition. As the din persisted, the House was first adjourned briefly before being adjourned for the remainder of the day.

Leaders from the opposition later accused the government of being unwilling to address pressing national issues on the floor of the House. They said Parliament was meant to hold the executive accountable and alleged that repeated adjournments were undermining democratic debate.

On the other hand, ruling party members criticised the opposition for stalling proceedings, arguing that disruptions were preventing important legislative and policy matters from being discussed. They maintained that adequate opportunities were being provided within parliamentary rules to raise concerns.

Frequent disruptions have marked several sittings of the current session, resulting in significant loss of productive time. Parliamentary affairs officials expressed concern over the repeated adjournments, noting that prolonged deadlock could impact the passage of key bills and discussions in the days ahead.
