LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!! Mysuru To Get World Class Film City

Siddaramaiah emphasized the role of international film festivals in showcasing global culture and urged filmmakers to produce meaningful cinema that addresses societal challenges.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the development of a state-of-the-art film city in Mysuru, with 150 acres already allocated for the project. Speaking at the inauguration of the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes) on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, he underscored the state’s commitment to bolstering its film industry by creating a facility that blends cutting-edge technology with human values.

Siddaramaiah emphasized the role of international film festivals in showcasing global culture and urged filmmakers to produce meaningful cinema that addresses societal challenges. He highlighted growing economic inequality, noting that 50% of India’s wealth is held by just 1% of its population, fueling unrest. “The film industry must foster unity and progressive ideals,” he said, citing Dr. Rajkumar’s legacy of socially resonant films as an example—one he feels is fading from modern cinema.

The CM also warned against films promoting superstition or unconstitutional values, invoking 12th-century reformer Basavanna’s rejection of karma. “Cinema should enlighten, not regress,” he asserted. With advancements like artificial intelligence reshaping filmmaking, he encouraged creators to focus on real-world issues and solutions, predicting that such films would endure and influence society positively.

“Karnataka, with Bengaluru as a global hub, offers immense opportunities for filmmakers,” Siddaramaiah said. “By harnessing technology, our cinema can thrive while contributing to a more humane and inclusive world.” The Mysuru film city, he hopes, will catalyze this vision, producing world-class content that resonates across generations.
