JNUSU Elections: Left Unity Leads Presidential Race, ABVP Dominates Secretary Posts
Left and ABVP split leads in fierce JNUSU battle royale.
Counting for the 2025 JNUSU elections reached fever pitch on November 6, with Left Unity and ABVP each dominating two central posts in a deadlock that has JNU buzzing. Out of 9,043 eligible voters, 67% turned up—a slight drop from last year’s 70%—but the energy inside polling booths on November 4 was electric. Two voting sessions ran smoothly from 9 am to 1 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, before counting kicked off at 9 pm under floodlights and watchful eyes.
Left Unity’s Aditi Mishra leads the presidential race with 1,375 votes, holding off ABVP’s Vikas Patel at 1,192 and PSA’s Shinde Vijayalakshmi at 915. In the vice president contest, Left’s K. Gopika Babu commands a strong 2,146 votes against ABVP’s Tanya Kumari’s 1,437. These top-tier leads keep the Left flag flying high, echoing their historic grip on JNU’s symbolic leadership roles.
But ABVP hit back hard in the secretary races. Rajeshwar Kant Dubey tops general secretary with 1,496 votes, edging Left’s Sunil Yadav at 1,367. Joint secretary is even tighter—Anuj Damara (ABVP) leads Danish Ali (Left) by just 47 votes, 1,494 to 1,447. The narrow gap signals ABVP’s growing muscle after last year’s breakthrough win in the same post.

Twenty candidates battled for the four central posts, while 42 councillor seats across schools added to the frenzy. NOTA and blanks drew only 144 votes, showing students stayed fiercely engaged. With results expected any moment, the Election Committee is finalizing counts amid rising tension.
This split verdict could reshape JNU’s politics—Left holding prestige, ABVP controlling operations. As final numbers drop, campus braces for celebration or showdown. One thing’s clear: JNU remains India’s loudest student battleground.
