Lashkar Terror Plot: IED Attack Planned Near Red Fort, Intelligence Agencies on High Alert
Security agencies say the plot is linked to avenging the February 6 suicide blast in Islamabad's mosque.
Sources have warned that Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning an IED blast near Delhi’s Red Fort and other major religious sites, including a temple in Chandni Chowk. The terror outfit allegedly aims to avenge the February 6 mosque attack in Islamabad, which killed 31 people and injured over 160. The Islamic State had claimed responsibility for that attack. Security agencies are monitoring the situation closely to prevent any potential strike. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert in crowded areas.
This threat comes three months after a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed 12 people and injured nearly two dozen others. The blast occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station, caused by a car packed with explosives. DNA tests identified the driver as Umar Mohammad, alias Umar Un Nabi, a doctor from Faridabad’s Al-Falah University. Fires broke out in multiple nearby vehicles after the explosion. The incident raised nationwide concerns over public safety at historic sites.
Investigations revealed that Umar Mohammad panicked and detonated the explosives after key members of his module were arrested. Two associates, Dr Muzammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, they were apprehended along with 2,900 kg of explosives found near Faridabad, Haryana. The module reportedly had plans for coordinated attacks across Delhi. Authorities believe the arrests prevented potentially larger attacks. NIA continues to probe the network’s activities across northern India.

At least seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the Red Fort blast case. The accused include Amir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Dr Muzamil Shakeel Ganie, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed, and Soyab. Their judicial custody has been extended until March 13. The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has been given 45 days to complete the investigation. The government is coordinating with security forces to enhance vigilance in Delhi.
Authorities have called for heightened security measures at religious and historic sites nationwide, given the continuing threat from terror modules. Surveillance and intelligence gathering have been intensified in crowded urban areas. Citizens are being asked to report suspicious activities to law enforcement. Officials have stressed that preventive action is crucial to avoid loss of life. Public awareness and cooperation are being seen as key to thwarting potential attacks.
