Ladakh L-G Appoints DCs And SPs In Five Newly Created Districts

Ladakh appoints DCs and SPs in five newly created districts.

Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) for five newly created districts in Ladakh, marking a key step toward operationalising the fresh administrative structure in the Union Territory. The decision comes just a day after the formal creation of the new districts, aimed at strengthening governance in remote regions.

According to an official statement from the L-G Secretariat, administrative charges have been assigned immediately to ensure that governance and law-and-order systems begin functioning without delay. The move is intended to bring administration closer to the people, particularly in far-flung and geographically challenging areas of Ladakh where accessibility and service delivery have historically been limited.

The five newly created districts—Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass—will now have designated DCs and SPs overseeing administrative and policing responsibilities. Officials stated that filling these key positions is essential for ensuring immediate functionality of district-level governance structures and maintaining law and order in sensitive border regions.

The Lieutenant Governor directed the newly appointed officers to assume charge without delay and work with urgency to meet developmental and administrative expectations of the local population. He stressed that the creation of new districts is intended to improve governance efficiency and ensure better access to public services in remote areas.

The administration also indicated that remaining subordinate posts will be filled on a priority basis, along with necessary logistical arrangements to support smooth functioning of the new districts. Officials added that this phased staffing approach is designed to ensure that institutional frameworks are fully operational in a structured manner.

Meanwhile, the existing district administrations of Leh and Kargil will continue to function during the transition period, coordinating with the newly formed districts. Authorities said the overall goal is to establish a decentralised governance system that improves service delivery, strengthens grassroots administration, and supports long-term development across Ladakh.
