KTR Challenges Rahul Gandhi To Face Telangana Students Over Unfulfilled Job Promises

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, on Saturday challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Telangana and directly hear the concerns of the state's students, accusing the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to fulfil its employment and education-related promises. The remarks came in reaction to Gandhi's ongoing "Chhatron Ki Goonj," or "voice of students," campaign, which the Congress leader has been running across several Indian states to highlight issues related to education and youth unemployment.

KTR argued that Gandhi should experience the ground realities in Telangana firsthand before continuing to speak about student issues elsewhere in the country. Inviting the Congress leader to visit specific locations within the state, including Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, KTR said students there deserved to have their voices heard directly, offering assurances of full hospitality should Gandhi choose to make the trip. He suggested that Telangana's students would provide Gandhi with what he described as the genuine "goonj," or echo, of youth frustration in the state.

Central to KTR's criticism was a reference to Gandhi's earlier interaction with youth at Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad, a well-known hub for coaching centers, which took place ahead of the 2023 Telangana assembly elections. During that visit, Congress had made a prominent campaign pledge to provide two lakh government jobs annually if voted to power in the state. KTR questioned the current status of that commitment, alleging that many of the same unemployed youth who were highly visible to Congress leaders in the run-up to the elections had since been largely ignored following the party's rise to power.

The BRS leader's remarks fit into a broader pattern of political sparring between the BRS and the ruling Congress government in Telangana over unfulfilled promises made during the last state election cycle. Congress's Chhatron Ki Goonj campaign, which Gandhi launched earlier this year in Kota, Rajasthan, has since expanded to multiple cities including Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune, with the stated aim of amplifying student grievances related to examination systems, high fees and employment prospects. The campaign has increasingly become a target for opposition parties in states where Congress currently governs, with leaders accusing the party of highlighting such issues elsewhere while allegedly falling short on similar commitments within its own states.

KTR's challenge to Gandhi also reflects a wider effort by BRS to position itself as a vocal critic of the Congress government's track record in Telangana, particularly on matters concerning youth employment and education, ahead of future political contests in the state. As both parties continue to trade accusations over unfulfilled promises, the exchange underscores how national campaigns like Chhatron Ki Goonj are increasingly being used as flashpoints in state-level political battles, with rival parties attempting to expose perceived inconsistencies between a party's national messaging and its governance record at the state level.
