Kolkata Police Stops ‘The Bengal Files’ Trailer Launch
Kolkata Police halts ‘The Bengal Files’ trailer launch; director decries move as undemocratic.
The trailer launch of the controversial film The Bengal Files, which explores the 1946 Calcutta Riots, was abruptly halted by the Kolkata Police on Saturday, according to the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri.
The launch event was scheduled to take place at a five-star hotel in the city in the afternoon. However, the police intervened before the trailer could be unveiled. Law enforcement officers at the venue declined to provide any official statement regarding the action.
Director Vivek Agnihotri strongly condemned the move, calling it an assault on democratic rights. “The censor board has cleared the film, and the Calcutta High Court has stayed any ban on it,” he stated.
