Kolkata Civic Body Seeks Property Documents From Abhishek Banerjee Through Notice
Kolkata civic body seeks Abhishek Banerjee property documents verification.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued notices to Trinamool Congress leader and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, seeking detailed property documents and approved building plans for around 21 landed properties reportedly linked to him or associated entities. The notices were issued under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980, which allows property owners to be heard in cases involving alleged unauthorised construction.
According to sources within the civic body, the KMC’s building department has asked Banerjee to submit relevant approvals to verify whether construction activities on the identified properties comply with sanctioned plans. The scrutiny reportedly aims to determine whether any deviations exist between approved layouts and actual construction work.
Officials said the properties under review include multiple sites in Kolkata, including 188A Harish Mukherjee Road—stated to be Banerjee’s residence—as well as an adjoining structure on Kalighat Road. Several of the properties are allegedly linked to a company named “Leaps and Bounds,” prompting further examination of ownership and compliance records.

The notices reportedly require Banerjee or his representatives to appear before the Special Officer (Building) at KMC headquarters with supporting documents. Civic officials said some notices were physically served at the properties, while others were affixed on site, in accordance with procedural requirements under municipal regulations. The corporation has also sought clarification on whether the constructions align with approved plans.
Sources added that the action followed an internal assessment by the civic body, which flagged possible deviations in construction from sanctioned designs. However, formal confirmation of violations has not yet been made, and the process remains at the stage of hearings and document verification.Neither Abhishek Banerjee nor his office has issued a public response to the notices so far. The development comes amid heightened political attention in West Bengal, where municipal enforcement actions involving high-profile figures often draw scrutiny from both ruling and opposition parties.
