Kodikunnil Suresh Calls FIR Against Mamkootathil Baseless
Kodikunnil Suresh defends suspended MLA, questions FIR legitimacy
Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh dismissed the FIR lodged by the Kerala Crime Branch against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil as a "false case" that will collapse in court. Speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, the Mavelikkara MP challenged the validity of the legal action, questioning how the police or state government could file a case without a written complaint or concrete evidence.
"It’s a baseless case with no complaint or evidence," Suresh asserted, expressing confidence that Mamkootathil would fight the charges legally to secure justice. The FIR, registered on Wednesday, accuses Mamkootathil of offenses including stalking, criminal intimidation under sections 78(2) and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and causing nuisance through communication under section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act.
The controversy erupted after Malayalam actress Rini Ann George accused a young leader from a prominent political party of misbehavior, sparking protests by the BJP and the CPI(M)'s youth wing, DYFI. Mamkootathil, who recently stepped down as Youth Congress state president, faced further allegations from several women and a transgender person. The situation escalated when audio clips of an alleged conversation between the MLA and a woman surfaced, prompting the Congress to suspend him from its primary membership pending an internal probe.

Suresh’s defense highlights tensions within Kerala’s political landscape, with the Congress rallying behind its embattled MLA. As Mamkootathil prepares to challenge the charges in court, the case has ignited debates over political accountability and the credibility of the allegations. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for Mamkootathil’s career and the Congress party’s standing in the state.
