Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju met Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Belgrade and reaffirmed the strong friendship and growing partnership between India and Serbia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of events marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement. Rijiju’s visit highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries and their shared emphasis on international cooperation.

Rijiju met Vučić at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade during his participation in the anniversary events. The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the relationship between New Delhi and Belgrade and underline the importance of continued cooperation. Both countries have maintained diplomatic ties for decades, with their relationship also shaped by their historical association with the Non-Aligned Movement.

During the engagement, Rijiju highlighted India’s founding role in the Non-Aligned Movement and reiterated New Delhi’s commitment to the principles associated with the grouping. These include respect for peace, sovereignty, dialogue and cooperation among nations. India has historically played a prominent role in the movement, which emerged during the Cold War as a platform for countries seeking an independent approach to global affairs.

The meeting also comes as India and Serbia continue to strengthen their bilateral engagement. Rijiju’s participation in the Non-Aligned Movement anniversary events also provided a platform for India to reiterate its approach to international relations. India has continued to advocate diplomatic engagement and cooperation as important elements of addressing international challenges.

The meeting between Rijiju and Vučić underscored the continuing importance of India-Serbia relations and their shared historical connection with the Non-Aligned Movement. Rijiju reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Belgrade while highlighting principles of peace, sovereignty and dialogue.
