King Charles Welcomes Trump At Windsor For Historic Second UK State Visit

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, beginning a two-day state visit hosted by King Charles III. Landing via Marine One in the castle’s Walled Garden, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were welcomed by Prince William, Catherine, the King, and Queen Camilla. This marks the first time a U.S. president has received a second UK state visit, a rare honor aimed at reinforcing the UK-U.S. alliance amid tensions over trade and security policies.

The visit began with ceremonial splendor at the nearly 1,000-year-old Windsor Castle, featuring a horse-drawn carriage procession, a military band playing both nations’ anthems, and an honor guard inspection. A private lunch and exhibit on UK-U.S. ties preceded a state banquet for 160 guests, adorned with historic silver and royal speeches. Trump called the invitation a “great honor,” reflecting his affinity for Britain’s monarchy, while experts note the visit’s diplomatic weight in navigating global challenges.

On Thursday, Trump will meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss a new UK-U.S. technology deal, amid investments from American firms. The talks follow Starmer’s dismissal of the UK’s U.S. ambassador over past ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a sensitive issue given Trump’s own historical association, from which he has distanced himself. The government aims to strengthen transatlantic bonds despite differences over Ukraine and NATO.
