Kharge Accuses Modi of ‘Murdering’ Constitution at Mysuru Rally

Congress chief slams BJP, RSS over alleged amendment plans

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of “murdering” the Constitution during a mega convention in Mysuru on Saturday, where Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated development projects worth over ₹2,500 crore. Kharge warned that the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are actively attempting to amend or rewrite the Constitution, vowing that the people of India would resist such efforts.

Addressing a large gathering, Kharge said, “Modi became Chief Minister and Prime Minister because of the Constitution, yet he is murdering the same Constitution. BJP and RSS are making daily attempts to remove it.” He cautioned, “If you allow them to change the Constitution, you will lose all your rights.” The Congress chief also criticized Modi for visiting 42 countries but ignoring conflict-hit Manipur, where ethnic violence since May 2023 has killed over 250 people and displaced 60,000, as per official records.

The event, attended by Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar and state ministers, highlighted Karnataka’s development achievements, including irrigation and housing projects. Kharge’s remarks echo Congress’s broader narrative, with Rahul Gandhi recently alleging in Kerala that the BJP aims to “destroy” the Constitution, a charge the BJP dismissed as “baseless fear-mongering.” The controversy comes ahead of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, starting July 21, where the opposition plans to raise Manipur and constitutional issues.
