Kerala nurses save man's life after heart attack in traffic jam
The swift actions of two nurses helped save the life of a 43-year-old man who suffered a heart attack while caught in a traffic jam near Kalady bridge in Kerala's Ernakulam district. The incident took place on Wednesday morning when the man, identified as Sinoj, developed severe chest pain while driving himself to a hospital. As traffic came to a standstill on the busy MC Road, he reportedly collapsed inside his vehicle, leaving bystanders alarmed.
The two women who came to his rescue were Anjali Baiju, a staff nurse at LF Hospital in Angamaly, and Ardra Raj, a nursing student in Bengaluru. They were travelling in a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus when they noticed a crowd gathering around the stranded vehicle. Realising that the situation was critical, they immediately got off the bus and rushed to assist the unconscious man.
Assessing his condition, the nurses began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) inside the car while bystanders helped create space and assisted in the rescue efforts. Their timely intervention helped stabilise the man before he could be shifted for advanced medical treatment. Witnesses said the nurses remained calm throughout the emergency, using their professional training to provide immediate life-saving care until further help arrived.

Sinoj, who runs a lottery shop at Thannipuzha near Okkal, was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical experts have often emphasised that prompt CPR during a cardiac emergency can significantly improve a patient's chances of survival by maintaining blood circulation until specialised medical care is available. The quick response by the nurses is believed to have played a crucial role in preventing the situation from becoming fatal.
The incident has been widely appreciated by local residents and social media users, who praised the dedication and presence of mind shown by the two nurses. Many also acknowledged the assistance provided by members of the public, whose cooperation helped ensure that emergency care could be administered without delay despite the traffic congestion.
The rescue has once again highlighted the importance of CPR awareness and basic emergency response training among the general public. Health experts continue to encourage citizens to learn life-saving techniques, noting that immediate intervention during cardiac emergencies can make the difference between life and death. The actions of the two nurses have been hailed as an inspiring example of professional commitment and compassion in a moment of crisis.
