Kerala Biker Killed After Iron Rods Fall Off Moving Van
Biker killed after loosely tied iron rods fell off van.
A 26-year-old man died in a horrific road accident in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Saturday after several iron rods being transported in a pickup van pierced his body. The deceased has been identified as Sherin John. The accident took place at around 10:30 am near HiLITE Mall in the Kuttanellur area. According to the available details, Sherin was travelling on a motorcycle when a sudden movement by an autorickshaw on the road forced vehicles behind it to stop abruptly.
A video that surfaced after the accident reportedly shows an autorickshaw making a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road. Sherin was riding behind the autorickshaw, while a pickup van loaded with iron rods was travelling behind him. The sudden manoeuvre left little time for the vehicles to react. Sherin and the pickup van were forced to brake suddenly, setting off the chain of events that resulted in the fatal accident.
The iron rods being transported in the pickup van appeared to have been inadequately secured. When the vehicle stopped abruptly, the rods reportedly slid forward with considerable force. Several of them struck and pierced Sherin, who was positioned ahead of the pickup van. The impact caused severe injuries, leaving him critically injured on the road. The incident highlights the potentially fatal consequences of carrying long and heavy construction materials without properly securing them to a vehicle.

People in the area rushed towards Sherin after the accident. The footage reportedly shows locals gathering around the injured biker and attempting to remove the rods and assist him. Emergency efforts were made to rescue him and get him medical attention as quickly as possible. Sherin was subsequently taken to a hospital, but his injuries proved fatal and he died despite the efforts to save him.
Following the accident, police took the pickup van into custody as part of the investigation. Sherin’s body was also scheduled to be shifted to the District Hospital mortuary. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident, including how the iron rods were secured and the movements of the vehicles immediately before the collision. The role of the autorickshaw’s sudden U-turn and the manner in which the pickup van was carrying the rods are also relevant to the investigation.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the transportation of heavy and potentially dangerous materials on public roads. Long iron rods and other construction materials need to be properly secured to prevent them from shifting or falling during sudden braking or manoeuvres. The tragic death of Sherin demonstrates how an unexpected traffic movement combined with improperly secured cargo can turn an ordinary journey into a fatal incident within seconds.
