Kashmir Times Office Raid: SIA Recovers Ammunition, Grenade Levers From Jammu Premises
Jammu police uncover ammunition stash in major newspaper office.
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu & Kashmir Police launched a major search operation at the Jammu office of the prestigious Kashmir Times newspaper on Thursday morning, resulting in the recovery of a significant cache of live ammunition and explosive-related material from the premises.
According to senior officials monitoring the raid, the search team seized multiple live AK-47 cartridges, several rounds of pistol ammunition, and three hand-grenade safety levers concealed within the office complex. The operation, which commenced early in the day, continued for several hours and remained underway at the time of reporting, with forensic and bomb disposal squads assisting in the systematic examination of every section of the building.
Simultaneously, an FIR has been registered against Anuradha Bhasin, Executive Editor of Kashmir Times, invoking stringent provisions of law for allegedly spreading disaffection against the state, glorifying secessionist narratives, and engaging in activities calculated to threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The case is being investigated under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other applicable laws.

The ongoing probe by the SIA is focused on establishing potential anti-national linkages, funding trails, and coordinated propaganda efforts that authorities claim have been used to undermine peace and security in the region. Sources indicate that digital devices, documents, and communication records seized during the raid are being analysed to trace any direct or indirect connections with prohibited organisations operating against Indian interests.
Founded in 1954 as a weekly publication by the late Ved Bhasin, a pioneering journalist of Jammu & Kashmir, and transformed into a daily newspaper in 1964, Kashmir Times has long been regarded as one of the region’s oldest and most influential English-language dailies; as the raid continued late into the evening, no official statement had been released by the newspaper’s management or its executive editor.
