Kashmir Shias Chant Pakistan Murdabad in Protest Against Islamabad Mosque Blast

Shia community in Baramulla, Kashmir, protests Islamabad mosque suicide bombing by marching with anti-Pakistan slogans.

Members of the Shia community in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest on the Srinagar–Baramulla National Highway on Friday, condemning the deadly suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan. The attack, which occurred during Friday prayers, killed at least 31 people and injured over 160, leaving the community and authorities shocked.

Demonstrators marched along the highway, raising slogans against Pakistan’s administration while expressing solidarity with the victims of the attack. Protesters emphasized that their criticism was directed at the Pakistani government, not the ordinary people, who they said are also affected by political instability and terrorism. “This attack is nothing new. Attempts to harm the Shia community have continued for years, but we will not be silenced,” a participant said.

Several protesters questioned the ideology behind targeting worshippers during prayers. One said, “How can someone kill people while they are praying in a mosque? This kind of mindset and ideology must be condemned. Innocent children, women, and men should not suffer for the failures of a system.”

Protesters clarified that slogans such as “Pakistan Murdabad” were directed at the administration and not the general populace. They criticized the Pakistani government for failing to stabilize social and financial conditions and for allowing terrorism to flourish, calling for international accountability.

The suicide bombing in Islamabad occurred at the Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra in the Tarlai area. Pakistani authorities confirmed that the attacker was not Afghan, and forensic tests revealed prior travel to Afghanistan. Following the attack, security was tightened nationwide as investigations continue into the planning and execution of the bombing.

The Baramulla protest highlights cross-border solidarity within the Shia community and reflects deep frustration over repeated attacks targeting religious minorities. Organizers stressed the importance of unity and vigilance, urging authorities to take stronger measures to protect Shia worshippers both domestically and internationally.
