Karnataka Gears Up for Quantum Leap with New Action Plan
Minister N.S. Boseraju announces the forthcoming Karnataka Quantum Action Plan to position the state as India’s quantum technology hub.
Karnataka is set to solidify its leadership in quantum technology with the upcoming unveiling of the Karnataka Quantum Action Plan, announced Science and Technology Minister N.S. Boseraju on Tuesday. Speaking at the curtain-raiser for the Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 summit, Boseraju revealed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch the plan, crafted by a Quantum Task Force of leading experts, to establish Karnataka as the “Quantum Capital of India.”
The minister emphasized Karnataka’s robust ecosystem, driven by Bengaluru’s status as India’s innovation hub, world-class institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and a thriving tech industry. “Under the leadership of CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, we are taking bold steps to make Karnataka a global leader in quantum technologies,” Boseraju said, highlighting the transformative potential of quantum advancements in sectors like AI, finance, healthcare, and cryptography.
The Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 summit, scheduled for July 31 and August 1, will feature Nobel Laureates Prof. Duncan Haldane (2016) and Prof. David Gross (2004), alongside discussions on quantum computing, security, and societal impacts. The event aims to foster collaboration and showcase Karnataka’s quantum strides, including the Quantum Research Park at IISc, which received Rs 48 crore for its second phase.

The Karnataka Quantum Action Plan will focus on integrating quantum education into academic curricula, building advanced research infrastructure with partners like IISc, supporting startups in quantum computing and communication, and creating regulatory frameworks to drive innovation. “Karnataka’s industrial base and talent pool position us to become Asia’s Quantum Hub,” Boseraju noted, underscoring the state’s edge over competitors like Andhra Pradesh’s proposed Quantum Valley.
With India’s National Quantum Mission allocating Rs 6,003.65 crore through 2030-31, Karnataka’s proactive policies, including a planned quantum summit in August 2025, signal its ambition to lead globally in quantum research and commercialization.
