Karnataka Cold Wave Brings Fog and Chill to Bengaluru and Interior Districts
Bengaluru and Karnataka interior districts brace for foggy mornings and low temperatures around 15°C on January 18.
A cold wave has tightened its grip over Bengaluru and several interior districts of Karnataka, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting cold and dry weather conditions on January 18. Many regions are expected to experience foggy or misty mornings, while clear skies will dominate during the daytime. Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions amid the drop in temperatures.
In Bengaluru, fog and light mist are likely during the early morning hours, with the minimum temperature hovering around 15°C and the maximum reaching close to 29°C. The city is expected to remain cooler than usual throughout the day and night, offering limited relief from the cold even during afternoon hours under clear skies.
Health experts have cautioned that prolonged exposure to cold weather can pose risks, particularly for the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Residents have been advised to wear warm clothing, use adequate bedding at night, and consume hot, freshly prepared meals. Special attention is being urged during early mornings and late evenings when temperatures dip sharply.

According to the IMD, dry weather has been prevailing across most parts of Karnataka for several days and is likely to continue. Coastal districts such as Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada are expected to remain dry, while north interior regions including Belagavi, Bidar, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Raichur, and Koppal will witness clear skies with no rainfall.
South interior districts, including Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kodagu, are forecast to experience chilly mornings followed by relatively mild afternoons. Officials have reiterated the importance of basic precautions, balanced nutrition, and timely medical consultation to ensure safety during this spell of cold and foggy weather.
