Karnataka CM Shivakumar Orders Action Against Negligent Drought Management Officials
Shivakumar warns officials over drought management negligence.
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday warned government officials of strict action if they fail to effectively manage the prevailing drought situation and ensure timely delivery of public services. Addressing the Kalaburagi Divisional-Level Progress Review Meeting, the Chief Minister said negligence, delays, and excuses in implementing development programmes would not be accepted by his government.
Shivakumar said the administration’s focus was on transparent, inclusive, and people-centric governance, with special attention to ensuring that benefits of government schemes reach citizens at the grassroots level. He stressed that officials must work in the interest of the public and protect the rights of every citizen, especially vulnerable sections of society.
The meeting marked the first divisional-level review of development activities in North Karnataka after Shivakumar assumed office as Chief Minister. Highlighting the importance of accountability, he said his experience across different levels of public life had given him an understanding of administrative challenges. He added that performance and results would be the key factors in evaluating officials.

The Chief Minister directed district administrations to strengthen drought management measures and ensure relief reaches all affected communities without delay. He instructed officials to maintain adequate fertiliser supplies for farmers and speed up lake-filling projects wherever required to address water-related concerns. Shivakumar said officials who perform efficiently would earn public trust, while those failing in their duties would face action.
Addressing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Shivakumar emphasised that no eligible voter should lose the right to vote. He directed Booth Level Officers to visit households multiple times to verify voter details and ensure that all eligible citizens remain included in the electoral list, stating that the process was linked to constitutional rights rather than political interests.
Speaking on Karnataka’s water resources, the Chief Minister said the state was taking steps to address long-term water challenges despite concerns over rainfall shortages. He said discussions had been held with the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with Union ministers, regarding interstate water issues and possible river-linking initiatives involving the Krishna, Cauvery, and Godavari rivers.
Shivakumar also assured that development projects launched during the previous Congress government under former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would continue and be accelerated. He reiterated that his administration would prioritise transparency, efficiency, and citizen-focused governance. During the meeting, JD(S) MLA Karemma Nayak from Devadurga appreciated the Chief Minister’s approach towards development projects, saying they were being implemented without political discrimination.
