Kanpur Lamborghini Crash Case: Investigation Ongoing, CM Yogi Warns Of Strict Measures

No arrests have been made in the high-profile Lamborghini crash that occurred on Kanpur's VIP Road, even as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned of strict action against those responsible. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when a speeding Lamborghini Revuelto, valued at over Rs 10 crore, allegedly lost control, ramming into pedestrians, an autorickshaw, a motorcycle, and other vehicles before crashing into a pole in the upscale Gwaltoli area. At least six people were injured in the collision, which unfolded in broad daylight around 3:15 pm near Jhula Park crossing or Rev-3 Mall vicinity, sparking public outrage over reckless driving and perceived delays in police response.

Police have identified Shivam Mishra, the 35-year-old son of prominent tobacco businessman KK Mishra of Banshidhar Exports, as the driver based on CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and other evidence. An FIR was initially registered against an unidentified driver but later updated to name Shivam Mishra under sections related to reckless driving, negligence, and endangering lives. The luxury car, bearing a Delhi registration (DL 11 CF 4018), has been seized for forensic examination. CCTV visuals show Mishra's bodyguards leaping from a following black SUV to pull him from the wreckage, adding to the dramatic scene captured in viral videos. An area SHO was removed from his post amid allegations of initial investigative lapses, including delays in FIR registration.

Conflicting claims have emerged from the accused's side. Shivam Mishra's lawyer and family, including his father KK Mishra, insist he was not behind the wheel, asserting that a hired driver named Mohan was driving while Shivam was a passenger, possibly unwell or experiencing a medical episode such as a seizure. The defense has suggested the vehicle malfunctioned the day prior and urged authorities to treat the incident as an accident rather than a criminal offense. Police have dismissed these assertions, maintaining that evidence—including CCTV and witness statements—clearly places Mishra as the driver, with a chargesheet expected soon.

The case has intensified scrutiny on privilege and accountability, drawing comparisons to similar incidents involving luxury vehicles and elite families. Opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, have criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for what they call a sluggish probe and questioned the absence of aggressive measures like "bulldozer action" often associated with the administration. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna relayed that CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered strict action, emphasizing that the law applies equally regardless of status or vehicle type. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal reiterated that investigations are ongoing and action will follow based on facts.

The incident continues to fuel public debate on road safety, elite impunity, and enforcement in Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have assured that the probe remains serious, with the driver slated for medical examination if needed. As of February 11, 2026, Shivam Mishra remains at large according to reports, though police are advancing the case toward filing formal charges. The episode underscores broader concerns about high-speed driving in urban areas and the need for swift justice to restore public confidence.
