Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Resigns From Trinamool Party Roles Citing Internal Concerns
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar resigns from Trinamool posts citing leadership issues.
Veteran Trinamool Congress leader and four-time Member of Parliament Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Wednesday resigned from all organisational posts within the party, marking a significant internal development in the ruling party of West Bengal. The resignation was submitted through a letter addressed to Trinamool state president Subrata Bakshi, in which she cited concerns over leadership conduct and internal functioning.
In her resignation letter, Ghosh Dastidar stated that she was stepping down from her role as Chairperson of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress along with other party committees and responsibilities. She expressed “immense pain and concern” over developments within the organisation, suggesting dissatisfaction with the current internal environment and decision-making processes. However, she clarified that she would continue to remain a member of the party in an individual capacity.
The MP from Barasat in North 24 Parganas also made indirect references to internal tensions within the party leadership. She alleged that inappropriate behaviour by a fellow MP towards a woman parliamentarian went unchecked and that senior leadership failed to respond adequately. While not naming individuals directly in detail, her remarks pointed to growing discomfort with internal disciplinary and ethical standards within the organisation.

Ghosh Dastidar also raised concerns over what she described as attempts to suppress or “cover up” allegations of corruption against certain party members. Additionally, she expressed distress over the party’s handling of the 2024 incident involving the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, calling the leadership’s approach deeply painful and disappointing.
Her resignation comes amid a period of visible internal differences within the party following earlier leadership changes, including her replacement as Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha by Kalyan Banerjee. The shift had reportedly contributed to tensions between her and the party leadership, which had already begun surfacing publicly through statements and social media posts.
Despite stepping down from organisational responsibilities, Ghosh Dastidar has indicated that she will continue to function as an ordinary party member. Her move is being viewed as one of the more significant expressions of dissent within the party in recent times, highlighting ongoing internal challenges in maintaining unity and managing leadership transitions.
