Union Minister Scindia suggests carrying an onion in your pocket during an extreme heatwave.
Amid an intense heatwave sweeping across several parts of the country, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia drew attention for his unconventional advice on dealing with extreme summer temperatures. Speaking informally during a public interaction, Scindia suggested that people should “keep an onion in your pocket” as a simple traditional remedy while coping with the scorching heat.
Scindia also shared personal habits, stating that he avoids using air conditioning in his car and generally does not prefer sitting in air-conditioned environments. Referring to the extreme temperatures often recorded in the Chambal region, he remarked that summers there can touch as high as 51°C during peak months of May and June and said that people from the region are accustomed to such conditions.
During his remarks, the Union minister added a cultural reference by saying he has what he called “Chambal skin", implying resilience built from living in extremely hot climatic conditions. He also made light-hearted comments about his personality, stating that although he may appear young, he considers his “soul very old", adding a humorous tone to his explanation of how he handles heat.
