#JUSTIN: Security Forces Eliminate Over 10 Maoists in Bijapur Forest Operation

Security forces engaged in a prolonged gunfight with armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) in the dense forests of southern Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, resulting in more than ten insurgents killed. The operation, launched based on precise intelligence regarding Maoist presence in the region approximately 450 kilometers south of Raipur, commenced early on Saturday. District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel led the anti-insurgency effort, with intermittent firing reported throughout the morning.

Authorities confirmed the recovery of at least two bodies of Maoist cadres from the encounter site during initial searches. Bastar police indicated that the toll is expected to rise as the operation continues, though specific additional details were withheld to prioritize the safety of deployed personnel. No injuries or casualties among security forces have been reported thus far.

The ongoing search operation underscores intensified efforts against left-wing extremism in the Bastar division, where Bijapur remains a key affected area and a recognized stronghold for Maoist activities in southern Chhattisgarh. This district has witnessed significant anti-Maoist actions in recent years.

Statistics from January 1, 2024, reveal substantial progress in the region, with 824 Maoists surrendering to join mainstream society, 1,079 arrested, and 222 eliminated in various encounters within Bijapur alone. These figures highlight a broader campaign to dismantle insurgent networks.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reaffirmed the government's commitment to rendering India completely free of Maoist insurgency by March 31, 2026, aligning this latest operation with national objectives to eradicate left-wing extremism through coordinated security and developmental initiatives.
