#JUSTIN: Security Forces Destroy Suspicious Bag on J&K Highway, Area Secured
Traffic was halted briefly after a suspicious bag on a Kashmir highway was safely destroyed by security forces.
Security forces destroyed a suspicious bag found near the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway in the Choora area of north Kashmir's Sopore on December 27, 2025, as a precautionary measure amid heightened alerts ahead of the New Year. Troops from the Indian Army's 52 Rashtriya Rifles detected the object during a routine cordon and search operation (CASO) in adjacent orchards, prompting an immediate response to neutralize any potential threat. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned, and the bag was destroyed in situ following standard safety protocols, with no reports of casualties or damage.
Joint teams comprising the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police swiftly cordoned off the area and halted traffic in both directions on the vital highway, which connects Srinagar to Baramulla and is frequently used by security convoys and civilians. Visuals from the site, shared by ANI, showed personnel securing the perimeter while the BDS conducted a controlled destruction, ensuring the situation was brought under control without escalation. The road was reopened for normal traffic after the all-clear was given, restoring normalcy in the region.
This incident aligns with a series of similar detections along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, including suspicious objects neutralized near Hygam in Sopore on the same day and past events in Pattan and other areas, often suspected to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by militants targeting forces or civilians. Security establishments have intensified area security and anti-sabotage operations around vital installations in north Kashmir, as stated by local police, to counter potential threats from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, especially during festive periods when vigilance is ramped up.

The timely action underscores the ongoing vigilance of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, where such proactive measures have repeatedly averted major tragedies amid persistent militancy challenges. Officials confirmed the situation remains normal, with investigations underway to ascertain the object's nature and origins, while emphasizing public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities continue to monitor the area for further developments.
