#JUSTIN: ISRO HQ Evacuated After Bomb Threat, Police Find Nothing

Bomb threat email forces ISRO Bengaluru evacuation, later confirmed as hoax

A bomb threat email sent to the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru on Thursday triggered a large-scale security response, prompting authorities to evacuate the premises as a precaution. Police, along with specialised bomb disposal personnel and sniffer dog squads, rushed to the campus immediately after the threat was received. The incident temporarily disrupted normal operations while security agencies initiated emergency protocols to ensure the safety of employees and visitors.

Following the evacuation, officials from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a comprehensive search of the ISRO headquarters. Every section of the campus was thoroughly inspected, while the dog squad assisted in checking buildings, offices and surrounding areas for any explosives or suspicious objects. Authorities maintained a high level of vigilance throughout the operation to rule out any potential security risk.

After completing the extensive search, police confirmed that no explosives or suspicious materials had been found on the premises. A senior police officer stated that the bomb threat was a hoax and there was no danger to employees or the facility. Once the security clearance was issued, the situation returned to normal, and officials began taking steps to investigate the source of the threatening email.

The Sanjaynagar Police Station has registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the sender of the email. Investigators are examining digital evidence and tracking the origin of the message to determine who was responsible for issuing the false threat. Police have not yet disclosed any details regarding the identity of the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities have reiterated that every bomb threat is treated with the highest level of seriousness, regardless of whether it ultimately proves to be genuine or false. Standard operating procedures require immediate evacuation, deployment of specialised security units and detailed inspections of affected locations to ensure public safety. Such responses are considered essential to minimise risks and protect critical national institutions.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges posed by hoax threat emails targeting important government and scientific establishments. Officials have urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and warned that individuals responsible for making false threats can face strict legal action. Police said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
