#JUSTIN: Bomb Threats Over Bihar Migrants Target Courts in Bihar, Other States
Courts in multiple Indian states evacuated after bomb threat emails claiming LTTE links over Bihar migrants to Tamil Nadu.
Courts across multiple Indian states were thrown into chaos on Thursday after anonymous emails threatened bomb blasts, claiming links to the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Judicial operations in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Himachal Pradesh were disrupted as authorities evacuated thousands of people and launched extensive searches for explosives.
In Bihar, district courts in Patna, Gaya, Kishanganj, Araria, and Patna City were evacuated following a threat email allegedly sent by a person identifying as an LTTE sympathizer. The email, received at 10:37 am, claimed that three RDX explosives were planted on court premises and demanded that the state stop sending migrant workers to Tamil Nadu. Police deployed bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, and conducted thorough sweeps but found no explosives.
Similar alerts were reported in Chhattisgarh, affecting courts in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, and Dhamtari. Security forces, including the CRPF and local police, conducted detailed inspections of court buildings and surrounding areas. While the threats caused panic among litigants, lawyers reported minimal disruption, and authorities treated the messages as precautionary alerts while investigations were underway.

In Odisha, high-profile courts including the State High Court, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Cuttack received anonymous bomb threats. The state government responded by enhancing security at key judicial and administrative installations, deploying senior officers to affected districts, and urging the public to remain calm while cooperating with authorities. Legal operations in several districts were temporarily suspended.
Himachal Pradesh also received a similar threat targeting the High Court in Shimla. Police and bomb disposal squads conducted comprehensive searches, but the court continued functioning normally. Authorities noted this was the fourth such threat in recent years, highlighting a concerning pattern of hoax emails targeting judicial institutions and administrative offices.
Investigations are ongoing in all affected states to trace the source of the emails and determine whether the threats were orchestrated by a disgruntled individual, a larger criminal network, or foreign interference. No explosives have been found so far, but security agencies remain on high alert, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance across courts nationwide.
