#JUSTIN: Army Jawan Shot Dead Near Cold Storage on Aligarh-Agra Road in Hathras

Chaudhary was fatally shot by assailants arriving in a car and motorcycle in Hathras; police probe old dispute angle.

A 28-year-old Indian Army jawan was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, police confirmed, triggering a manhunt for the perpetrators. The victim, identified as Akhilesh Chaudhary, was reportedly ambushed while travelling on the Agra-Aligarh Road near a cold storage facility in the Kotwali Sadabad area of Hathras.

According to officials, Chaudhary — who was posted at an Army workshop in Agra — had just attended a court hearing and was returning when the attackers, arriving in a car and on a motorcycle, surrounded his vehicle and opened fire. Despite attempting to flee after exiting the vehicle, he sustained fatal bullet wounds and was pronounced dead at the district hospital.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said that multiple police teams have been mobilised to investigate the incident. Authorities have formed five investigative teams to track down the suspects, examine CCTV footage from the area, and interview witnesses. A district-wide manhunt is underway as part of the preliminary probe.

Family members and local residents provided context at the post-mortem facility, where Chaudhary’s cousin alleged the killing may have stemmed from a longstanding personal dispute, claiming that the suspected assailants were from the same village as the victim. Police, however, have not publicly confirmed the motive and are continuing to investigate all leads.

The attack adds to a string of violent incidents involving security personnel in parts of northern India, prompting concerns about officer safety during routine travel. Authorities emphasised that strict action would be taken once the attackers are identified and apprehended.

Local law enforcement appealed to the public for cooperation in the investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward. The case remains under active inquiry as police sift through evidence to establish a clearer timeline and motive for the ambush.
