#JUSTIN: 10 More Maoists Including ₹8 Lakh Reward Cadre Surrender in Sukma

10 Maoists with ₹33 lakh bounty surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma.

Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district witnessed a major breakthrough in its long battle against Naxal insurgency as ten Maoists from the notorious Darbha division surrendered before security forces. The group carried a cumulative reward of ₹33 lakh, with one of the prominent cadres, Medium Bhima, alone having an ₹8 lakh bounty. Officials described the surrender as a crucial milestone in restoring peace and stability in the Bastar region.

The surrendered cadres, including six women, handed over an assortment of weapons such as an AK-47 rifle, two Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), and a barrel grenade launcher (BGL). Their decision to abandon violence comes under the central and state governments’ rehabilitation policy, which promises dignity, financial assistance, and social reintegration to former Maoists looking to return to mainstream life.

The surrender ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Bastar Inspector General P. Sundarraj, CRPF DIG Anand Singh Rajpurohit, Sukma SP Kiran Chavan, and Collector Devesh Dhruv. Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that rehabilitated cadres are given employment support, safe housing, and pathways to rebuild their lives independently.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the development on social media, calling it evidence of a “historic transformation” unfolding across Bastar under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s guidance. He highlighted the “Poona Margem – Rehabilitation to Rejuvenation” initiative, which has encouraged numerous Maoist cadres to abandon armed rebellion in exchange for a secure and dignified life.

The list of surrendered Maoists includes Medium Bhima (₹8 lakh), Ganga Kunjam (₹5 lakh), Lekam Rama (₹5 lakh), Tati Soni (₹5 lakh), Shanti Sodi (₹5 lakh), Madvi Naveen (₹1 lakh), Madvi Rukni (₹1 lakh), Oyam Mangli (₹1 lakh), Podiyam Mangi (₹1 lakh), and Madvi Gangi (₹1 lakh). Local community leaders such as Umesh Sundam of the Sarva Adivasi Samaj have urged more youth to follow suit, noting that even top commanders in neighbouring states are laying down arms.

This latest surrender comes shortly after 11 Maoists— including senior CCM member Ramdher Majji — gave up arms in Khairagarh, signaling the collapse of the once-powerful MMC zone. With the recent elimination of notorious commander Hidma and increasing pressure from coordinated security operations, officials expect more surrenders in the coming weeks. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit to the state is seen as a key moment in consolidating these gains.
