JP Nadda Assures Withdrawal Of FIRs After CJP Calls Off September 5 Protest

JP Nadda welcomes protest withdrawal and assures FIRs will be withdrawn.

Union Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday welcomed the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) decision to call off its proposed September 5 protest and reiterated the Centre’s assurance that FIRs registered against students who participated in the July protests would be withdrawn.

Nadda’s remarks came after the Supreme Court quashed FIRs registered against students who took part in CJP-led protests across the country between July 20 and 25. The development followed a period of discussions between representatives of the protesting students and the Union government aimed at resolving the issue surrounding the demonstrations.

Referring to talks held on July 25, Nadda recalled that he and Union Minister Jitendra Singh had engaged with student representatives regarding the protest at Jantar Mantar. He noted that the government had assured the students that cases registered against them would be withdrawn and that no harsh action would be taken against them in the future.

Nadda also indicated that the Centre had held discussions with governments in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party to facilitate implementation of the assurance. He reiterated that the government remained committed to supporting young people and placed their progress and development among its key priorities.

Welcoming the decision to cancel the September 5 march, Nadda noted that BJP-ruled states had assured the Centre that FIRs registered against CJP protesters within their respective jurisdictions would be withdrawn. The assurance follows the government's earlier efforts to address concerns raised by the protesting students.

The developments mark a further step towards resolving the dispute that emerged from the July demonstrations. With the proposed September 5 protest now called off and the process of withdrawing cases moving forward, the focus is expected to remain on implementing the assurances made during the government’s discussions with student representatives.
